Oman sets up a special economic zone for AI in Muscat

In April 2026 Oman announced a special economic zone for artificial intelligence in Muscat.

What was announced

  • Projects in the zone get free-zone incentives.
  • It is run by the Public Establishment for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
  • Oman's target is for the digital economy to reach 10% of GDP by 2040.
  • Recent investments in the chip sector total OMR 14.63m (USD 38m).

Our take

Every GCC state now has an AI offer for companies. Competition between them is good for businesses in the region: more incentives, more infrastructure, and more pressure to make rules clear.
