On 8 December 2025 the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) launched Qai, a national company for AI infrastructure. Two days later it was reported that Qai and Brookfield had formed a USD 20bn joint venture.
What was announced
- Qai operates under QIA. Its mandate is to develop, manage and invest in AI infrastructure in Qatar and abroad, and to provide compute for training and running AI models.
- Its chairman is Abdullah bin Hamad Al Misnad.
- The joint venture with Brookfield covers AI infrastructure in Qatar and selected international markets, including an integrated compute centre.
- Brookfield takes part through its AI Infrastructure Fund, which targets up to USD 100bn globally.
Our take
This is the foundation the later announcements build on, including Qai's hosting deal with MEEZA. More compute capacity in the country should make local AI workloads easier to source over time, though pricing for businesses hasn't been published.
